CVD stands for chemical vapor deposition, a diamond-growing method that uses a carbon-rich gas (typically methane) in a vacuum chamber heated to around 800–1000 °C. The gas breaks down, and carbon atoms deposit onto a diamond seed plate, building up a diamond crystal layer by layer. CVD diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds, with the same crystal structure and optical properties.

CVD diamond process overview
The CVD process begins with a thin diamond seed plate placed in a vacuum chamber. Methane and hydrogen gases are introduced and energized by microwaves, hot filaments, or other methods to create a plasma. The carbon atoms from the gas settle onto the seed plate and crystallize into diamond. Growth rates are slower than HPHT, but CVD can produce larger, higher-purity crystals over a growth cycle of several weeks. After growth, the diamond is cut and polished using standard diamond cutting techniques.
